Morning Activities
Yay! I’m done with all of my sessions and am so happy! Today I have zero sessions to present, just a WIT (women in technology) table to moderate. It’s also party night, so I’m banking all of my energy for the fun times ahead.
This morning I met up with a couple of folks. One was my buddy Adrian Png —he’s been a long-time ODTUG friend and I’ve always admired his passion for all tech. We caught up over breakfast and he showed me the latest cool project he’s been working on.
We also talked about the world of APEX, OCI, and A.I. and where we think our careers are going.
Then I met up with a new recruiter friend before attending sessions for the day. It’s always nice to be able to meet new people at conferences like Kscope. You never know when your paths will cross again.
What’s New In Planning Cloud (Mark Rinaldi, Marc Seewald, Muthu Ranganathan)
The Planning rockstar PM team shared a bunch of updates with us. I will try to share screen shots of the key slides.
In a show of hands, customers who were already migrated to Gen2 were seeing either the same or better performance improvements. None of those folks were seeing a degradation in performance.
Planning Cloud is being used by thousands of customers. The top features include Budget revisions, Lease asset planning, Cash flow planning, and Weekly planning. Financials is the most used module, followed by Workforce, Capital, then Projects.
Oracle also has a complete solution coming in September 2023 for ESG Analytics and Reporting:
On the topic of IPM: ICYMI, there was an advanced option for AutoPredict that was released last September. It allows you to configure it for more accuracy. Then in October that enhancement was brought to Predictive Planning.
What’s New in Narrative Reporting (Al Marciante, Tom Lefebvre, and Dave Roberts, Oracle)
Note that the NR team does a great job of showing all of this content in regular Cloud Customer Connect webinars. I’d highly recommend you sign up for those notifications.
ETA: mid to late 2024.
The system reporting sounds very interesting. Here is a bit more information about what’s coming for that new report type.
My biggest excitement is related to what’s coming with A.I. and Narrative Reporting. Here’s an update about the direction of that.
Notice the bottom statement. Oracle is committed to keeping customer data safe and they do not use identifying customer data to train their models.
WIT (Women in Technology) Luncheon (sponsored by AuraPlayer)
Another successful WIT luncheon event! It’s always a joy to meet like-minded women in the field and discuss the challenges we face. The food was great! The company was awesome! Thanks to AuraPlayer for sponsoring!
P.S. – are you a woman in technology in need of a mentor? Or are you a mentor who wants to give back to the ODTUG WIT community? ODTUG has a WIT mentor program. Check the ODTUG website for more details.
Afternoon Break
I took an afternoon break to pick up my bracelet for the Wednesday night special event, complete my ACE on-camera interview, and grab an afternoon snack!
Today’s afternoon treats included much needed coffee, popsicles, soda, and cookies!
What’s New with Oracle Smart View (Al Marciante and Shaji Puthanveettil, Oracle)
Just a friendly reminder: Oracle supports the most recent 2 versions of Smart View. For Cloud customers, this means you need to keep your version of Smart View updated on a regular basis. The Smart View tool updates generally twice a year.
Just a friendly reminder: minimize your usage of the HSGet function. It will negatively impact performance. The Oracle EPM PM team reminded us to convert those to regular ad hoc Smart View worksheets.
Wednesday Night Special Event
The special event this year was at the Denver Aquarium, with an optional costume theme of Rockabilly. I usually save my energy for this one event, which goes late into the night and is then followed by a smaller after party.
This was a cool space, with eating and drinking stations throughout the aquarium tour. There was also seating downstairs, as well as a dance floor. Check out some of the pictures I took!
My favorite part of any Kscope special event is the dance floor. Once the right music kicked in, Natalie and I hit the dance floor and that’s where we stayed for the rest of this event.
Once that fun ended at 10 pm, we went to the after party, which was at a cool bar that was a shrine to the Grateful Dead. It was not the right vibe for everyone, so a group of us left after an hour. Take a look at some of those pics!
Since I had paced my caffeine intake, I wasn’t sufficiently tired by that point. However, since my friend group had gone to bed, I decided to do the same.
